On November 19, 1931, Xu Zhimo boarded a small plane flying from Nanjing to Beijing. Amidst heavy fog, the plane crashed into the side of a mountain near Jinan. Xu Zhimo had often expressed the desire to "fly" and he had flown regularly. His death sent shock waves throughout China. This episode travels all the way from Xu Zhimo's old home to Clark University, Columbia University, and Cambridge University, where his creativity came to full bloom. Also featured are discussions of Xu Zhimo's western syntax, his forays in capitalism and later socialism, his relationship with Hu Shi, and his legendary love affairs. Video 5 of 13.
